Never Stop Learning

crabYesterday, I read about how to take macro closeups. I was just sure I should zoom up on objects, and was unhappy because all my pictures were blurred. Not so, I read. My particular model works best on a wide angle setting with the camera about 10 cm. from the subject.

Today I nearly stepped on this little guy with his speckled shell and pokey eyes. He’s only about an inch and a half across, and I couldn’t have taken his picture if I hadn’t spent that time reading the day before. I was right down there in his face shooting various angles.

He finally decided enough was enough and took a fighting pose, threatening to attack the camera, and much to my concern, my shutter finger as well.

Now I have a record of what a small dog sees when he encounters a crab along the road, and I’ve also learned how important it is to balance my time between learning new techniques and actually taking pictures.
