3 steps to be more expressive in their delivery
What makes the voice truly interesting to listen to is color. Color is life, emotion, animation a breath to speak, whether on the stand, the sales meeting, by telephone or in a one-on-one conversation. Through my many years as a voice specialist, I discovered some very interesting correlations between the professions we choose, and if we speak with color. On top of that list are athletes, research scientists, and CPA, who often have little or no expression in their delivery.
The color is expressed not only in the voice, but it is a facial expression as well as body language. Harrison Ford is a wonderful example of excellent facial expression, body language, excellent. The tone of his voice is something static – it does not show much variety in his voice – but as an actor in the types of roles it plays almost no need for vocal variety: his face and body or display "talk" all the emotions you are feeling.
Step 1
To see how expressive they are (or not!), See your face in a mirror and say the following statement – She said yes – as if enchanted. Now say those words again – She said yes – as if they were disappointed. Did you notice the difference in his facial expression between delight and disappointment? If no difference then you probably need some work.
Step 2
Let to work with – She said yes – again. This time, when you look in the mirror, smiles as he says and nods her head up and down only a little. (No late.) Did you notice any difference? Now, when you say – I said yes – I want to frown and shake head backward and backward as if he was sad or disappointed. Were there any difference? If you notice a difference, then you just took step 2 to talk to the color.
Step 3
Record yourself saying – I said yes – the first time as if you were happy (just found out I won the lottery) and the second time as if you were disappointed (his mother-in-law comes to visit for 6 months). Play the recording. You should notice a big difference if you can "act" in these two ways. I'm not advising to act in a normal conversation, but expressing some emotion after learning that just won the lottery or discovering of the impending visit of his mother, the law is normal. It's natural. This is what most people.
When I teach color I explain to my clients that I want which are on the wall, ie, too much color is as bad as not enough color. Sometimes a client will exaggerate their "color" is not what I'm looking for. exaggerated color that is seen on stage. That is the only place for it. exaggerated speech sounds ridiculous because it is inappropriate. So if you and express emotions when you watch about not going too far in improving delivery.
At the lectern, however, I often find that many people are usually very expressive a tendency to lose her life, her color, her emotion. They are so overwhelmed by panic and fear, which are no less expressive. Their voices and their faces turn pale white like spitting a lot of words with little or no emotion. If this sounds like you, then you need to change.
A delivery colorful presentation or speech is to be grab and keep your audience's attention. When you can be expressive on the podium, then you're on your way to becoming a dynamic speaker.
