What is wrong with this picture? For the life of me, I could not tell because I did not like this movie.
A young man unaware of his early princely magic goes on a quest to retrieve a fallen star in a play to win the heart of local beauty. The characters, many of them are ironic, playful with modern sensibilities. Probably not so modern in fact, only the cheesy kind of people thinking that nobody had thought about the characters until recently. I have said that for a fan of Neil Gaman's novel, this film is used as the source, which not all such arbitrary changes to the script that make little sense. As turning the collector Ray, Robert DeNiro's character in a swishy pirate. I guess as a sort of nod to Pirates of the Caribbean, or trick to look like.
Just do not bake it right. I needed a way to initial stage is really the tone together. And that fun whimsical tone needed for a more systematic forward to working with the overwrought and its purpose was to seek summary of the production design. The film is seen as someone has said, can make it look like Terry Gilliam film, but not so expensive. Must be just hired Terry Gilliam. This does not bode well for a series adaptation of Xanthos.
The fact is that fantasy and humor have been well in many a movie. The Princess Bride, Time Bandits, Erik the Viking, Jabberwocky, I'm sure its more. Please sing and add to the list. It's not a horrible film is watchable. Probably fun in one night alone in the cable. Still, it was like going to Versailles (Cuban restaurant great in Los Angeles) and get dry chicken. Anyway, go see it and tell me why it was disappointing.
