The beauty of slack parenting
It can be much easier to be a parent clearance what being a good father. Similarly it can be much easier to give into what it is to tow the line. My kids seem to know the perfect time and place to test my patience, and is almost always in public. Always I wonder if my reaction would be different at home, in private, what is the right target right in the middle of a herd of people. I can just see the wheels turning in their heads, as they plan their attack strategy. As was the case this weekend when my 3 year old son decided to put his plan into action that caused my blood to boiling temperature above any normal human. When he stood up in the car screaming at the top of their lungs trying to throw out because I would not buy the toy he wanted calmly informed him that he would not be allowed to have a packet of mints at the check out against unless they were established. This only made him need to shout stronger and more difficult to ensure all eyes were on us as we quickly crossed to the express lane. As you saw the mints, which obviously was not getting tried to jump off the wagon like a Kamakazi Pilot on the conveyor belt and to grab a package. Now imagine this. I had my four months in the package tied in front of me with my 4 and 6 years old in the trailer while trying to contain the three years of age while remaining calm as the greatest lady in front of us slowly counted his change. Can you say frustrating? At the end of all this I was shaking and sweating as he did in a straight line to the car. In the end I "won" as it was hard knowing what I had done my best for my child. As mothers, we face difficult situations almost daily and sometimes hourly. Up to us to raise individuals responsible and rounded, and even small decisions we make about it. At the time it may seem easier to give in to tell the next time you will drag the line, but what message are they sending? Try to maintain consistent reactions, either at home or in public so they know what to expect when you challenge. It would have been much easier to let my 3 years of age have the package of mints and maintain peace, but much more difficult in the long term. If I gave and took the easy way every time will ultimately end up with seven very spoiled kids would run over me anytime he wanted. Being a parent is hard. Good parenting can give you gray hair, but in the end their children to shine!
