Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8-4.5 DC OS HSM Zoom for Canon D-SLR Tamron AF 17-50mm 2.8 XR Di-II LD SP ZL Aspherical?
Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8-4.5 DC OS HSM for Canon Zoom D-SLR Tamron AF 17-50mm 2.8 XR Di-II LD SP ZL Aspherical? looking to get a lens for my XSi, these two caught my eye. The Sigma can be had for $ 200 least has the OS, but no fixed opening 2.8 of the Tamron. Looking for experienced input as to which is the best option. Greatly appreciated. Have a 55-250 IS Canon for my TV needs, you need a lens to take portrait, lots of interior work … is not a favor by any stretch just looking for the best lenses the dollar. I would like a comparison of these two by someone knowledgeable in the two pieces of glass …
Steady wins the lens opening, stabilizer or no .. Sigma also has a 18-50 mm f / 2.8 which is slightly less than the Tamron in cost. For portraits, the constant f / 2.8 is much more useful than a stabilizer. The Tamron is basically a digital version of their very good 28-75 mm f / 2.8. Not cheap, but closer to the Canon lens is $ 1,000. I would have no qualms at all about the use of the Tamron.

You should investigate the details of this combination of lenses. But I dare say you may get better results with clarity tube. With the introduction 2x are more glass in the equation.
